5 months of Lucille Amelia (and a Buttons n’ Blossoms Giveaway)

PinkFlowerHeadband

So Lucy is actually five months AND one week today. My tardiness in writing this post is due to both Thanksgiving and the oft repeated parental mantra: “it goes by so fast.” I can’t believe that in a matter of weeks, Lucy will reach her half-year birthday. It feels like just yesterday that I found out we were having a little girl. In the past months, my life has been transformed and my squishy newborn has grown into a baby girl with heaps of personality.

Lucy’s fifth month has been nothing short of magical. Our big accomplishment? TEETH. To a new mama, two teeth in a week’s time was simply miraculous. I felt her first while waiting in a check-out line. “She has a tooth!” I proclaimed to the strangers standing beside me. They smiled, and I have to believe that most of them were parents or aunts or godparents because smiled like they understood. Besides being adorable, these two bottom teeth have also made breastfeeding VERY interesting. I’ve yelped and hollered more times than I can count. This girl CAN BITE.

GoldHeadbandCan you spot those two bottom teeth?

But I’m happy to say that despite these new challenges, Lucy and I are still exclusively breastfeeding. We hope to continue until she’s at least six months old…and we may wait even longer. Lucy loves to nurse, and I love it too. The look on her face when my milk starts to flow is priceless. Talk about bliss! She has, however, been showing extreme interest in all things edible. Dinner at our house has become as much about eating as keeping Lucy’s hands out of our food.

Another big change? Well, I’m writing this post while Lucy is playing on the floor beside me. She shows such interest in toys now, and she finally has the motor skills to manipulate many of them. She’s always been ahead on the developmental curve, and she’s sitting by herself like a champ now. We’ve only had a few minor tumbles, and we’re all placing bets on when she’ll start to crawl. I’m also having to learn that it’s okay to let her play on her own. It’s an adjustment to leave that newborn phase…there are many days where I feel like she needs to be in my arms all the time…but then I remember that it’s good for her to learn how to occupy herself.

In order to celebrate five months of this lovely girl, I’m happy to be hosting a Buttons n’ Blossoms Giveaway. Sara and I went to college together and it’s been wonderful to reconnect with such a beautiful and creative soul! Sara makes the most gorgeous hair accessories for women…and she’s expanding into the realm of babies! Each of these blooms are hand cut, pressed with a vintage milliners iron, and then hand sewn together. Stunning is only one of many words that could describe her creations. Lucy loved modeling these headbands. They’re surprisingly comfortable (which is a must for baby head gear) and they always elicit oohs and ahhs from friends and strangers.

Sara and I are thrilled to be giving away one of these gorgeous baby blossom headbands. They’d make a perfect Christmas gift for all the little lovelies in your life. How do you enter? Follow me (@cakestand) and Sara (@buttonsnblossoms) on Instagram (if you have an account) and then leave me a comment with your favorite of the above blooms.

She melts my heart, she is so cute! My little girl is turning a month old on Friday and I just can’t believe it. I’m trying hard not to wish away the time – the sleepless nights and unexplained crying make it easy to think that way – and I’ve committed myself to taking more pictures!

I started following you both on instagram, and I have to say that the first headband is my fave!

  2. sallybr

My favorite is the first one… now, please do not enter me in the giveaway, because I don’t have anyone to give a beautiful headband as a gift, so just take my comment, tell your friend her work is amazing, love ALL headbands, and I will let others have a chance to win

this series of photos caught me off guard, I was not ready for such overload of cuteness on a Wednesday, so you brighten up my morning cappuccino again!

  3. Mary Frances @ The Sweet {Tooth} Life

Her eyes are so expressive! You have a gorgeous little girl, Monet. Everything about her, from her hair, to her fingers, to her sweet little face, is absolutely beautiful. Those cute little teeth are definitely worth celebrating! You have the most amazing headbands – when Rebekah gets old enough, I am going to find her headbands like these, especially that fourth one with the blue flowers. So pretty! You are one amazing mother Monet!

  4. Christin@SpicySouthernKitchen

Your precious baby looks more and more gorgeous in each post and I love those headbands! I exclusively breastfed both of my kids and loved it so much. It becomes so natural and calming. Your body will tell you when it’s time to stop. I made it right to the 14 month point with each of my kids and I knew I had had enough. My body started sending me signals that it was feeling depleted.

  5. Annie

Lucy is getting so big and look at those teeth! She’s a wonderful model for those cute headbands. Pardon my absence…life is moving quite fast for us too. Stay warm and safe!

  6. Ashley

I can’t believe she’s 5 months old already either!! Gosh she is just the cutest. And teeth – yikes I can imagine that makes breastfeeding interesting!! Happy Wednesday friend!

  7. Addy Collins

OMG I love them ALL!!! I don’t even know how I would choose a favorite! Sara made my wedding veil/flower as well as blossoms for my bridesmaids and flower girls! It is so exciting that she is venturing into baby wear! Especially since I now have a 3 month old as well! You are correct- it all goes way too fast πŸ™‚ I think my favorites would be either the bling one at the end on lace, or the blue and green on the thin coral band! But they are all so lovely!!

  8. mangiabella

Lucille is the most precious lil bella and such a bright shining light!!! I don’t have an instagram account, but my favorite is the 2nd to last with the blue flowers, the photo used on Facebook. So beautiful, I have several new babies in my life that this would make an amazing gift for xoxo

  9. Vicki Tiller

Aww Monet, Lovely Lucille is so adorable! She makes my heart melt. I really do hope to meet her some day. I think it is time for me to make a trip out to CO!!

I am following you both on Instagram. All the headbands are amazing but my favorite is the last one. I think my newest granddaughter Ruby would look beautiful in it!

Love to you and your family!

  10. John@Kitchen Riffs

Lucy really should be a head band model! She’s so adorable in them. Two teeth? She’s growing so quickly! Looking forward to hearing what you’ll be doing for her half-birthday celebration!

  11. Melissa

I somehow missed out on the cute headbands when our daughter was born, so I live vicariously through following both of your blogs πŸ™‚ Lucy is the perfect model for these headbands!!
I can’t quite decide between the first and last headband…but the last is so unique that I’m giving it my vote!

  12. Kelly

Oh my goodness, I can’t believe Lucy is 5 months already – time really does fly. She always brings a smile to my face every time I see her precious face. Yay, new teeth for Lucy but yikes about the biting – it can get a bit tough but hopefully will get better for you soon. I would tell my son gently that it hurt “mommy” and then the biting stopped one day. Lucy looks gorgeous in all these beautiful headbands:)

  13. Krystal Boudreau

Lucy is always pretty as a doll! And the headbands are amazing! I’m in love with the last lace one πŸ™‚

  14. Karen Muser

Lucy is growing so fast! Enjoy each day with her to the fullest. I love her eyes – they are just beautiful. I think that all of the headbands are gorgeous, but my favorite is the lace one (the last one).

  15. Jessie

Every picture is more gorgeous than the last! Little Lucy is looking so much like her mama πŸ™‚ I can imagine her emerging teeth are both wonderful and – ouch! – painful. As always, I love reading your reflections on motherhood πŸ™‚

I love all the headbands, the last one especially! No need to enter me in the giveaway because I don’t have a little one yet or anyone to give it to, but I just wanted to add how much I love all of them.

  16. Jacqui

I love the blue flower/pearl one toward the end and the last lacy bejeweled one. I’ve never seen one like that last one. So unique and classic. And your model is pretty adorable, too!

  17. Morris

Teeth! My little one didn’t get teeth for a long time. It was nice. She never did bite me though or make me uncomfortable with her teeth when they did come in. That came at the end of our nursing journey. We waited until she was exactly 6 months to start solids. She loved it. She, too, was beyond excited for about a month or so before we started feeding her solids.

I have to say that I love the last headband. It is too cute.

  18. Hotly Spiced

Lucy is just gorgeous and what milestones – sitting and teeth! Crawling and chowing down a steak won’t be far off! I love those gorgeous headbands – adorable xx

Oh, Monet!!! Thank you for the comment you left for us, because it reminded me to come and visit you. I’ve been so busy lately, my blog world has been a little out of touch, and I’m simply amazed at how big Miss Lucy is!! She is positively beautiful. What a smile she has, and a life in her that shows through her vivid eyes. She’s taking it all in, isn’t she?
Oh, how well I know what you mean about letting her play on her own. I’m a few years in front of you, and this year has been a tough one for me. My son is 17. 17 and a half actually, and hearing him say, “See you later mom… I’ll be back late, so don’t worry about waiting up.” is simply terrifying. He’s driving, or even worse, someone else is driving, and no, I won’t be asleep until I hear the key hit the door.
You are in such a wonderful time, and I’m so happy that you are enjoying every moment! It shows in your writing. Thank you for such a fulfilling post!! It brings back a lot of memories for me, and I’m loving watching her grow through your eyes.
PS… we are out of the baby phase… so please don’t enter us into your giveaway. πŸ™‚ Someone else will enjoy these headbands! They are adorable! (wishing I had some 14 years ago!)

  20. Nami | Just One Cookbook

Lucy is the cutest baby I know! She has beautiful eyes and really adorable expressions that I can’t resist! <3 I still can't believe how fast she's growing! Enjoy every moment… I miss mine at Lucy's age. πŸ™‚

    Monet,
Sorry that I’m late leaving a comment. Lucy keeps getting cuter and cuter, and the headbands are gorgeous. I have no babies to wear this, so give it to a a “Momma” with babies. I’m waiting for son and daughter-in-law to have a baby:)

  22. Julie N.

Hi, I’ve been a reader from afar for awhile. You have such an adorable baby and beautiful family. I enjoy seeing the pictures and reading the things you write. I do want to ask what kind of camera you use for most of your pictures? They seem to be so clear and well done.
